Case Study - Automated Data Commentary Report

The problem: The client produces data commentary reports on a recurring basis, each built against a branded Word template and written to a specific style adhering to their established brand voice. Producing one manually took several hours, followed by senior review. Off-the-shelf AI wasn't viable as generic output would need as much correction as starting from scratch. Accuracy was essential as fabricated figures aren't acceptable when the data is the product.

What was done: A custom Claude skill automates the full pipeline end-to-end in three stages: raw data is processed into a structured JSON that becomes the sole source of truth for every figure; commentary is written against the client's structure and style guide; and the output is injected into a branded Word template, preserving all formatting. Significant iteration was required to match the client's voice closely enough that the result reads as theirs.

The result: A process that previously took several analyst hours now runs in four to five minutes, producing a document that is accurate, consistently styled, and ready for review and a few minor tweaks… not redrafting.
